Nugent to Make History as First Female Presenter to Host Monday-Wednesday Broadcasts

Kay to Take on Thursday-Saturday Programming

In a groundbreaking move, Sally Nugent has been named as the new BBC Breakfast presenter, making her the first female to host the weekday morning news program. Nugent will anchor the show Monday through Wednesday, while Jon Kay will take on the Thursday-Saturday broadcasts. The changes will take effect in early September.

Nugent, an experienced journalist and host, has been a familiar face on BBC Breakfast since 2012 as a regular news presenter. She has also presented BBC News at Ten and the BBC Six O'Clock News. Kay has been with the BBC since 2002 and has presented BBC Breakfast, as well as other news and current affairs programs.

The appointment of Nugent and Kay signals a significant shift in the presentation of BBC Breakfast, which has traditionally been hosted by male presenters. It also aligns with the BBC's commitment to promoting gender diversity in its on-air talent.

In a statement, Nugent expressed her excitement about her new role, saying, "I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the BBC Breakfast team. It's a privilege to be part of such a long-standing, well-respected program."

Kay also welcomed the news, stating, "I'm delighted to be taking on the Thursday-Saturday presenter role on BBC Breakfast. It's a great show with a loyal audience, and I'm looking forward to being part of its success."

The changes to BBC Breakfast are expected to bring a fresh perspective to the program, while continuing to provide viewers with the latest news and analysis.
